Dining Down Memory Lane

Shelley Howell came to FatCat seeking a custom book cover and wound up signing on with us for the whole kit ‘n’ kaboodle: book design & layout, cover design and custom illustrations. The book, “Dining Down Memory Lane,” is a collection of recipes from now-defunct Baltimore restaurants. Being a Baltimore-based design studio, we were thrilled about this unique project!

Shelley wanted the over-arching design and illustrations to take the reader back in time and evoke a sense of nostalgia. Our designer, Heather, managed just that with her thoughtful choice of fonts, her classic layout and by hand-sketching each one of the illustrations in this timeless style. She also added in period-based touches throughout.

Shelley’s book includes recipes from more than 20 restaurants, spanning across 17 neighborhoods in both Baltimore City and Baltimore County. It also includes vibrant stories of her visits to this sorely missed places. < We consider it a must have in your kitchen! >
